THE EVENT

or even our waiting list for this event (see below).

A weekend of English Country Dance (#23 in the series) to suit a wide range of tastes, with dances from the period c1650 to the present day including New England Contras and Squares. It is aimed at enthusiasts who enjoy their dancing and aspire to improve their skills, and knowledge of English Country Dance, but not at the expense of courtesy and cordiality. The emphasis will be firmly on enjoyment.
The weekend commences with dinner on the evening of Friday 16th January 2009 and concludes with a farewell dance on the afternoon of Sunday 18th January. There will be a mixture of dances & workshops, and some free time to explore Bournemouth, & its beautiful environs.

THE LEADERS

The series is organised and led by JOHN & HILARY TURNER. The calling is shared between John and our 'Guest Caller'. John calls dances in a variety of styles from Playford to 'New England' Contras & Running Set.
The music is provided by our 'Guest Musicians' (see below). Hilary is Booking Secretary & Hostess.

GUEST CALLER - Lynne Render
LYNNE RENDER is a dancer and caller from Loughborough. She calls regularly at clubs, public dances, ceilidhs and festivals. Lynne calls a mixture of dances for a wide range of dancers but her particular interest is American. She always looks for interesting but flowing dances and firmly believes that a clear explanation will enable the less-experienced dancer to enjoy a good dance. Lynne enjoys dancing herself through social dance, ceilidhs and Appalachian clogging.

GUEST MUSICIANS - Eddy Jay & Fiona Barrow (The Bristol Players)
EDDY JAY and FIONA BARROW are both individually gifted and experienced entertainers and improvisers, and are both classically trained with considerable technical mastery of their respective instruments. As two very strong, yet complimentary musical personalities, Eddy and Fiona combine to create something which is undeniably greater than the sum of their respective parts. Their performances, whatever the venue, consistently bristle with an invigorating vibrancy. They are based in Bristol, England, together they have performed internationally for theatre (National Theatre/Kneehigh’s ‘Tristan and Yesult’ - Australian leg), and several UK music / dance festivals (including Sidmouth, Chippenham, and the Southam Gathering).

THE VENUE
HOTEL PICCADILLY, an AA 3 star establishment in Bournemouth, Dorset, is 'the UK's number one hotel for dancing holidays'. The accommodation is comfortable and stylish, and the spacious ballroom has a magnificent maple floor, sparkling chandeliers, delightful period paintings and dramatic drapes. The restaurant is well known for its fine cuisine.
All accommodation is en-suite and is available in Double, Twin (shared) and Single rooms. A small number of guests are accommodated in an adjacent hotel.
Unfortunately there are very few 'Single' rooms available, so your willingness to share with a friend may improve your chances of attending the event.
Hotel Piccadilly is situated in Bath Road close to the centre of Bournemouth, approx 10 mins walk from the pier, and only a short distance from the coach & rail stations with regular services from London and other regional centres. Try their Website: Hotel Piccadilly
