Rainbow Guides are the youngest members of The Guide Association. They are also the newest, having been set up in 1987. Many units all over the country celebrated the Rainbows 10th Birthday in 1997. Waiting list permitting, girls may join Rainbows any time after their 5th birthday. As soon as they join they can wear the Rainbow Guide uniform. Once the Guiders feel the new Rainbows are ready, the girls make their Rainbow Promise. Once they are 7 years old they can move 'up' to Brownies if a space is available. Prestwood is a village in the county of Buckinghamshire, UK. 1st Prestwood Rainbows began on 10th September 1991. Originally we had 10 girls and then a further 5 joined in November. Since formation of the Unit, we have seen 178 Rainbows, 7Assistant Guiders, 10 Unit Helpers, 7 Young Leaders and 2 Pack Leaders. Our Unit Guider is Claire Templeton, who started the Unit back in 1991. We meet on Tuesdays during term time at Prestwood Guide Headquarters and our Rainbows wear our red Rainbow Guide uniform. Each of the 4 Rainbow Units in Prestwood associate themselves with a different animal. 1st Prestwood Rainbows are cats and each girl who joins makes a special black cat to help her to learn the Rainbow Promise. Our mascot is a cuddly toy black cat called Noah. The girls take it in turns to take Noah home and, as well as looking after him, they write a short prayer to be read at the end of the next meeting.
