2002 starts here!

Goodyear MSA British Off Road Championship Round 1 Tunbridge Wells

British off road motorsport has traditionally been dominated by specialist vehicles, but a resurgence in the production and modified production classes is evident as the Goodyear MSA British Off Road Championship kicks off this weekend in Tunbridge Wells.

An intense battle of Land Rovers is in store in the modified production class. Simon Dowdeswell (Defender 90) may have the edge over his rivals, having already put in many miles of testing on the control tyre, the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R. The very experienced and lightening quick Richard Hopkins in his 4.6 litre Discovery will chase Simon to the wire, and keeping them both in check will be the ultra reliable Paul Clackett with his Range Rover.

2002 also sees the arrival of a semi-works team, Colin Read will campaign a
Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin in the production class with support from Colt Cars UK and will face competition from the Suzuki Vitara of previous British class champion Nik Ward.

At the front, reigning champion Paul Choat will lead the field off into the testing multi-terrain course on one of Kent's finest country estates. Paul will have to keep an eye out for the returning five times British champion, Bruce Tigwell, reigning Hillrally champion Andy Davis and the very rapid Keith Lewis and Trevor Milner.
