Matador launch at NEC 2006 Events

Driffield 8th/9th April

Expect plenty of water and loads of "air" as the competitors leap and splash their way around this dramatic "lunar" landscape.

Ellesmere, Shropshire 3rd/4th June

This is a venue that tests the teams to the limits - the forest sections are punishing and the grasslands are blisteringly fast.

Castle O'er, Scotland 1st/2nd July

This forest venue has a bit of everything, fast gravel tracks, rocky quarry sections, river crossings and mud.

Radnor Forest 9th/10th September

This superb venue has moved from the opening round to a new September date and an expanded route makes it an even tougher challenge this time round.

Hafren Forest 28th/29th October

The championship concludes in classic mid-Wales terrain. A heady mixture of moorland and forestry means that the final round has something for everyone.

"Ultimately we want people to enjoy themselves watching and participating in 4x4 competition," explains Graham Middleton MD of Matador Tyre Sport UK. "but at the same time it brings a different angle to Matador Sport's sporting portfolio."

Championship director, Selwyn Kendrick was equally glowing about the new sponsors. "We are very pleased to be joining the Matador motorsport family and are chuffed to bits to be partnered by a company that is as passionate about the sport as we are. Graham Middleton has spent the last year experiencing our events as a competitor and now he is providing us with the support to move the sport forward. Graham has got lots of ideas and we fully expect Matador to be very proactive in their support."

From grass roots to sand dunes

On the championship stand this year at the Autosport International Show at the NEC (12-15th January), the Matador MSA British Off Road Championship are featuring Graham Middleton's production class Mitsubishi Shogun Evolution which he used on the British Off Road Championship in 2005. Graham's Shogun is easily recognisable to the 'man on the street' and vehicles like these competing will hopefully encourage new people into the sport at a grass roots level.

The other vehicle featured on the stand is the Ford RS Trainer and this also represents an attempt to bring new blood into the competition.  This vehicle is likely to form part of an initiative to get teenagers to take their first step onto the off road motorsport ladder of opportunity.
