First round re-scheduled

09/03/01

With the number of confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth reaching triple figures and showing no sign of slowing, the organisers of the Goodyear British Off Road Championship have decided to reschedule the first round.

Championship organiser Selwyn Kendrick explains, "With the nature of our sport we need to be especially careful. It would be very easy for competitors vehicles, or transporters to carry the disease from one part of the country to another"

"Many of our competitors live and work in agricultural areas, and they come from right around the UK. It just wouldn't be fair on those communities."

The first round has been moved to mid June, but retains it's original venue the extensive Radnor Forest complex, familiar as both host to Rally GB stages and in previous years to stages of the October Hillrally.

The Radnor Forest Safari is an excellent place to start the new for 2001 Goodyear British Championship. The safari will comprise a mixture of the fast forestry "rally style" link roads and the rougher tracks and fire breaks that criss-cross the forest. The Radnor Forest Safari is probably the only opportunity for off road racers in the UK to experience some of the best forestry land in the country.

The entry lists are already filling up and the rest of the championship fixtures should with any luck not be effected by the continuing crisis.
