Neil Davey takes to the air to reel in a flying Kershaw. Photo: Paul Bentley/cautionovercrest.comRichard Kershaw retained his dominant form on round two of the Goodyear MSA
British Off Road Championship at Ellesmere in Shropshire.

Kershaw used his technical advantage to good effect on the ever changing
course.  The farmland site presented the competitors with a mixture of fast
open grass fields, rocky tracks and tight woodland sections.  About a third
of the track posed a challenge of a quite different kind.  The lower
woodland tracks consist of a deep layer of wood chippings and were very
soft.  In the early laps the tracks were slippery and power sapping but
essentially smooth, but by the end of each day the surface had deteriorated
forming bad ruts and a washboard-like texture.  Kershaw's well developed car
coped better than most with the latter conditions and it was here that he
made up most of his time.

It was not however complete dominance, Neil Davey pushed Kershaw hard for
much of day one.  "We're reeling him in!" said a confident Davey until an
overshoot in his Maxilight led him to destroy reverse gear and cost him any
chance of challenging Kershaw further.

Leading diesel competitor Brent Taylor rejoined the fray in Ellesmere and opened his account with a very positve third places on the tricky Shropshire track.

Production based runners found the going tough, the rough track handing the
advantage to the special buggies with their huge wheel travel.  Colin Read's
showroom class Shogun Warrior D-ID was once again the top production runner
in ninth, beating everyone else including the modified Super Production Cup
competitors.  Winner of round one, Stephen Smith came out on top in the
Super Production class, a mere thirty seconds in front of the returning Tony
Walmsley in a similar V8 Land Rover Defender 90.
