11 Beaumont
runners turned out to compete in the Dovedale Dash
- a hilly 4.75 mile cross-country with a semi-wet
crossing of the River Dove thrown in. Only the
first 10 finishers are published and several
Beaumont entrants declared that they treated the
event as a social run. Mark Whitfield was
our first finisher (at 89th of about 1,200).
Kate Griffiths was 851st. Other finishers (no
positions available): Mark & Bev
Ritchie, Julie & Mick Kirby,
Sharon & Roger Moon, Barry
Coleman, Clare Scott and Terry
Simms.

Ken Earp
completed the Dublin Marathon on 29th October,
crossing the line in 4:44:45 to finish 5,767th of
8,428 (and he was 161st in the M55 category). Ken
reports that the course took runners through the
city centre, parks and suburbs of the city. In
running terminology it was a little undulating but,
with support and encouragement all round the course
on a nice sunny autumn day, it made for a great
atmosphere. Full

city, employees from local corporations entered as
a team and competed in 3.5-mile road races, with
the fastest company teams advancing to this
season-ending championship race on Park
Avenue.
Phil finished
20th of 268 male runners in 17:57, and the Royal

When Sharon
McMulty left us to move to Vancouver, Canada,
she certainly kept up her running. Among her
reports to Debbie Marsden, she writes: 'Did the
Terry Fox 10k in Whistler Mountain and was 4th lady
home, and 10th over all'. Also: 'Did my second
cross country here and came third lady overall and
2nd in my age category. I got a medal for the third
place position. Knew that I would not catch the
first lady vet as it a lady called Jeanie Bezden
who runs at a national level (she was minutes
ahead). The cross country races here are lovely but
there are not as many women that enter them, which
a bit disappointing, certainly not as many as in
the Derby Runner League. Apparently not many women
like the off road stuff. They do a masters series
where you need to do 4 in the series. I will just
have to wait and see how I do across them all,
which I am hoping to do this year. Still at least I
have managed to pick up something in both the races
that I have done here and scored points towards the
total.'

Leicestershire

line at the New Memorial Sports Park in a time of
32mins 41secs to take a fine victory

On Saturday 9
June Steve Ellis took part in the 27th
running of the classic Nike Blaydon Race, contested
over 5.7 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Blaydon.
He completed the course in 44:22 - and was pleased
with this as he hadn't run for 2 weeks because of
injury. Steve was 872nd out of 3,338 finishers. The
atmosphere was incredible and he reports that he
thoroughly enjoyed the event. The race conditions
were a bit warm but it was well worth the 400 mile
round trip. Finish line goodies included beer and a
souvenir Nike technical t-shirt.

Rahim Madarbux on the second leg,
then Phil Critchlow picked some
people off to finish 7th). Team

club). That honour was not lost to Beaumont RC -
runner-up and club mate Debbie Marsden took
