International Journal of Ambient Energy
Notes for Authors
Format The International Journal of Ambient Energy is set in 10 point Helvetica Light in two columns of an A4 page. Three levels of subheading are available and pages will be numbered consecutively for each year of publication (four issues).
Preparation of Manuscript All submissions should be supplied by e-mail to patrick.waterfield@ambientenergy.org.uk as a Word document (Version 2003 or lower) - ASCII text is also acceptable - pages should be numbered consecutively. Illustrations should NOT be embedded in the text but sent as a separate file or files. Illustrations must be referred to in the text by a Figure number e.g. Figure 2, and ALL illustrations included with a paper must have a Figure number, descriptive caption and referred to in the text by the Figure number. A.PDF file may be provided in the first instance and in exceptional circumstances a paper may be presented as Hard Copy. See also additional comments on illustrations below
References References should be referred to in the text using numbers in square brackets running consecutively throughout the paper, referring to a numbered reference list at the end of the paper in which reference should be made to books [1] and papers [2] using the following convention:
1. Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption: The Rebound Effect. Eds Horace Herring and Steve Sorrell Palgrave Macmillan, Basingstoke UK and New York USA 2009 pp 280 ISBN (13) 978-0-230-52534-4 2. Rees, D. A. S. “The onset of Darcy-Brinkman convection in a porous layer: An asymptotic analysis”. International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol. 45, No. 11, 2002, pp. 2213–2220.
It is the policy of the Journal to include a brief synopsis,100 – 150 words, at the beginning of the paper. Details of the author’s qualifications and present appointment should also be submitted with the paper. Authors should also provide their email address/addresses though only the corresponding author’s email address will be published.
Method of Presentation Sections and paragraphs are not numbered. Otherwise there are few rigid rules for the method of presentation and authors are given some freedom to present the content of their paper in the most suitable way. Wherever possible, authors should make use of subheadings to highlight the content of specific sections of their paper, and are urged to use the three levels of bold or italic headings that are available. These can be indicated in the typescript in descending order by: 1. UPPER CASE BOLD ranged left. 2. Upper and lower case bold at the start of a new paragraph. 3. Upper and lower case italic at the start of a new paragraph.
Tables Tables should be numbered consecutively throughout the text with separate numbering from illustrations. They may be placed within the text or submitted separately. In either case the Table numbers (e.g. Table 2, Table 3 etc.) should be referred to within the text. Please do not use a Table Editor.
Illustrations Illustrations must be monochrome, scanned with good resolution and supplied in TIFF / JPEG / Photoshop 2.0 or lower / Photostudio 2000 (ver 4.03) or lower. Illustrations from PowerPoint are NOT acceptable. The Journal is printed in monochrome. Coloured Illustrations can sometimes be confusing. Authors should be aware that illustrations in colour are not suitable unless colours are used that produce distinct monochrome images – some colours look similar when reproduced in monochrome
Authors may be asked to provide hard copies of illustrations if the electronic version is not deemed adequate. Line drawings should be in dense black ink on plain white drawing paper or tracing paper or printed on a good quality computer printer with high resolution. Lettering should be printed, stencilled or to an equivalent standard in a sans serif font to mirror the Journal font if possible. Hand-written annotations will NOT be accepted. Photographs should be clear black and white prints on glossy paper. Both line drawings and photographs should preferably be of a larger size than the intended finished printed size. The title of the paper should be pencilled lightly on the reverse of each drawing or photograph and the Figure number clearly indicated. Captions to illustrations should be provided on a separate sheet/file, linked to the illustrations by the Figure number.
Referees All material submitted for publication in The International Journal of Ambient Energy will be sent out to referees for appraisal. No paper will be published in The Journal until it has been accepted by referees. Authors should be clear that it is a condition of submitting a Paper for consideration for publication in The Journal that it is not submitted elsewhere and will not be unless it is rejected for publication in The Journal.
Off-Prints A copy of The Journal issue and six off-prints of a paper will be supplied without charge to the first named author. The publishers are happy to quote for additional copies if required.
