| If you are the kind of person who has a care for the less fortunate members of our
community, enjoy social occasions with friends and have a little time to combine the two,
then maybe you should be a member of Abingdon Lions Club.
Membership of Abingdon Lions is open to adult men and women of all ages and from all walks of life. The club has no political or religious affiliation. All you need to become a member is a commitment towards a common cause - serving your community. Lions Club members enjoy what is in effect a constructive form of relaxation - working together on fund-raising and community welfare projects that vary in size and scope. We organise the Riverside Gala on August Bank Holiday, Father Christmas's Sleigh and distribute Fox Boxes. We support (just to name a few) things like children's clubs and activities, youth clubs, old people's Day Centres, Scouts and Guides, support for Alzheimer's sufferers, riding for the disabled, Hospices, drug awareness for schoolchildren. We have probably helped at one time or anotherany cause that you can think of. Since 1981 Abingdon Lions Club has donated more than £160,000 to charitable causes of all kinds. Our Club meets once a month, more often than not in a local Pub, to discuss how to raise and spend money for charity. We also meet socially and have family events. We've had barbecues, pudding evenings, boat trips, skittles and bowling trips, race nights at the dogs, and many others to suit all tastes. If you think you can commit a little time and energy, now and again, to support what we do, then please take the next step and give my number a call. I'll be glad to spend a little time with you to answer your questions and tell you in detail what it means to be a member of the largest Service Club in the world.
