Welfare 2000



December 2000


2-Care The club approved a donation of £100 to support Christmas celebrations.
Guides A donation of £280 was made to South Abingdon Guides Assocaition to purchase new programme materials.
Flexicare The club approved a donation of £500 to Flexicare.

November 2000


Cystic Fybrosis The club made a grant of £317 for the purchase of breathing masks and flutters for the sufferers of cystic fibrosis.

October 2000


Breast pump The club approved a grant to Abingdon Midwives of £390 for the purchase of two breast pumps to replace a worn out one.
Lunch The profits of the Millenium Ball were used to provide a lunch for nearly 200 over 70 year olds in the Abingdon Guildhall. Every attendee received a box of chocolates to take home and twenty lucky people won a prize in the free raffle. Many letters of appreciation and thanks were received by the club.

September 2000


Cancer The club approved a grant of £200 towards the purchase of a display board for the Abingdon Cancer Support Group.

July 2000


Austria The club approved a grant of £150 towards the expenses of a guide travelling to Austria.
South Korea A grant of £150 was approved for a young man planning to go to teach in South Korea for a year.

June 2000


Nubuliser A nebuliser has been received and arrangements are being made to present it to Churchill Hospital.

April 2000


Belize The club approved a grant of £150 towards the costs of a student planning to go to Belize. She will give us a talk on her return.
MS The club approved a donation to Oxford Isis Lions for MS Awareness Week (9th - 16th April)

March 2000


Day trip to Weymouth Plans are being made to take a coach load of old folk to Weymouth on the 16th May. The cost of £750 was approved.
2-Care The club approved a grant of £250 to 2-Care to help sent some of their residents on a holiday in Norfolk in May.
Eye Health A consultant from the Radcliffe Infirmary is coming to give us a talk.
Cystic Fibrosis Abingdon Lions are giving £235 for a nebuliser for the Churchill Hospital so that they may loan it to sufferers while they go on holiday.
Miscarriage Support We are giving some balloons to the Abingdon Miscarriage Support Group for the balloon launch in their awareness week in March.

February 2000


Ashanti School We agreed to donate £150 to the District for a man from the Ashanti School for the Deaf in Ghana to come for a course in the UK.
MS We have purchased £100's worth of Christmas stars from the Multiple Sclerosis charity for sale. We sold some before last Christmas and the rest will be sold befor next Christmas.
Hill End The club have donated £100 to Hill End Residential Field and Study Centre to enable them to purchase a fax machine.
Playgroup In return for assisting us on the Christmas float, we have agreed to donate £50 to Hadland Road Pre-School Playgroup.

Makeyevka Makeevka Lions Club are looking for hosts for two Leos who are medical students and want to study in Oxford this year.
