| Bogota | Margaret Wheeler is going to Bogota again (see June) and would like to take some medicines with her. The club will donate £400 to purchase some medicines (at a discount) and will also provide some clothing for her to take. |
| The Bridge | The money raised by the sale of the last quiz sheets will be donated to the Bridge Information Centre. |
| 2-Care | The club agreed to donate £250. We have helped them in the past. |

| Operation | Henley Lions Club are raising funds for an operation on a young boy born with no fingers on one hand. We agreed to contribute £100. |
| Cycle Ride | A young lady is taking part in a sponsored cycle ride through the Rift Valley in Kenya to raise funds for the charity I-CAN. We are donating £150. |
| Miscarriage Support Group | Abingdon Lions has agreed to donate £100 to the Abingdon Miscarriage Support Group to assist their work. |
| Operation Raleigh | Abingdon Lions has agreed to assist the travel funds to the extent of £150 of a young man who is going to Belize on Operation Raleigh. |
| Vietnam | We are donating £250 to a lady who is returning to her work helping children in schools in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam. |
| Sobell House | Abingdon Lions is selling Christmas horns for Sobell House. This is being coordinated by our newest recruit, Chris Mansfield. |

| Eye Health | Lions Frank Allen and Chris Mansfield are our club coordinators on the Lions Eye Health Programme. They would like a couple more lions to join them. |
| Millenium Bench | Abingdon Lions are donating a bench to the town. It will be engraved by Lion Brian Eastoe, (our best chiseller), and we hope that it will be situated in the Market Place. |
| Fox Boxes | Abingdon Lions are taking part in the distribution of Fox Boxes to the needy again this year. All lions are requested to make known how many boxes they require to Lion John Prior who is coordinating our efforts. |

| Holidays | Abingdon Lions are sponsoring two needy families who would not otherwise be able to afford it to go on a one weeks's holiday in Newquay. We are paying all of the costs and giving them some spending money as well. While they are there, they will be looked after by Newquay Lions who will take them on trips and generally make sure that they have a good time. Thank you friends! |
| Youth Club | Marcham Youth Club are campaigning to raise money for a new pre-fabricated building. We have donated £380 towards the planning costs. |
| Eye Health | We have found a "volunteer" to represent the club on the Lions Eye Health programme. Well done Frank! |

| Award | Abingdon Lions Club has been presented with the "Outstanding Club Award for International Understanding and Cooperation" for 1998-1999 for its work with the Lions of Makeyevka. |
| Scouts | The International Scout Camping Centre at Youlbury requested assistance to help renovate and an area known as the Snake Pit. It was agreed to donate £250 for the purchase of plants, etc. |
| Theatre | A request has been received for assistance to attend a course at the National Youth Theatre. It was agreed to donate £50. |

| Football strip | A request was received from the Abingdon Boys and Girls Football Club requesting sponsorship to replace the strip for their Under 14 boys team. The club were pleased to agree a donation of £425. |
| Keyna | A young man requested financial assistance to attend a World Challenge expedition to Keyna. The club agreed to donate £150 towards this activity. |
| RLSS | We have donated £87.50 to fund the purchase of literature for teachers at a local school who are running a RLSS life saving course as an out of school activity. |
| Gardening | Abingdon Community Hospital requested help to improve part of their garden. A team of Lions (all volunteers) was assembled to spread bark chips on the flower beds. |

| Bogota | We have donated £500 to Margaret Wheeler to support her work in educating and saving the street children of Bogota from drug running, child prostitution and general thieving. She gave the club a harrowing presentation of her superb but very dangerous work there. |
| Riding for the disabled | A request was received for a donation for a millenium event. A donation of £300 towards the event was agreed. |
| Chile | The club has had a request from a young man wanting to go to Chile with Operation Raleigh. A contribution of £150 was agreed. |

| Holiday | We have received two requests to send deserving families on holiday this year. It was agreed to donate £700 to provide accommodation and spending money for these two families. |
| Uganda | A request was received for assistance to help fund a volunteer to travel to Uganda where she will be helping out in a school for a year. A donation of £150 was agreed. |
| Makeyevka | A giant sized cheque for £100 for the Makeyevka appeal was received from Hemel Hemstead Lions. Thank you friends. |

| Tacade | Tacade (The Advisory Council for Alcohol and Drugs Education) packages have been issued to two schools. |
| CAB | The Abingdon Citizen's Advice Bureau has requested help towards funding computer equipment. A sum of £500 was donated. |
| Makeyevka | A donation of £100 has been received from Wallingford Lions. Thank you neighbour. |
| Kosovo | A donation of £250 was agreed for the Kosovo appeal. |
| Furniture | A house was cleared of its furniture (with the consent of the owner, I am assured) and part of the contents were given to a needy person while the remainder was transported to our store for reuse by those who need it. |

| Emergency telephones | A donation of £150 was made to Police Country Watch to purchase equipment to train children to use a telephone in an emergency situation. |

| Spectacles | Our collection of old spectacles (no - not Lion B!) has been going well and the first consignment has been dispatched. |
| Fox Boxes | Our need for Fox Boxes (Christmas food parcels for the old and needy arranged by the local radio station and donated by Sainsbury's customers) was only partly met this year and so we purchased food from the local supermarket at the last minute and packed and distributed them. This cost us £615. |
| Makeyevka | The parcels that were sent last month have arrived safely. |
