A
few doors away from the Grosvenor was Jearys,
Tobacconists and Confectioners, at Number 41.
What a mouth-watering selection of sweets and
chocolates they sold and Ice Cream throughout the
year! Then there was the usual display of cigarettes,
cigars accompanied by the smell of pipe tobacco.
Although
I used to enjoy a quiet smoke mainly
filter-tipped cigarettes by this time I had given
up as there were more-pressing priorities: Jelly
Tots and Dolly Mixtures for our little son and,
sometimes, Mint Imperials and Liquorice Allsorts
for us! Probably a lot healthier than smoking, but
rather bad for our teeth!
Jearys
was on the left-hand side of the alleyway that
led to the parish church, with Marjorams on the
other side. Now, of course, there is a Travel Agents
where Jearys shop was: Broadland Travel offering
a World Choice of holidays.
