NEWSON’S

Newsons

Around the corner, just beyond the Market Cross, we
found the shop we were looking for – J V Newson Ltd!

We had been married a few months and decided it
was time to buy a ‘telly’. And, before you ask – no, the
‘novelty’ hadn’t worn off yet!”

Newsons, at Number 28 Market Place, stocked all the
major brands of television sets, radios and electrical
goods as well as records and cameras.

“Looking around, we chose a 12 inch Sobell portable
black-and-white television set which was just within
our price range. It lasted all of two years before the
tube went!”

Hughes Electrical, with branches all over Norfolk, maintain the tradition of providing for the visual
entertainment needs of the local populace, occupying
the same premises as Newsons from bygone days.
Now, of course, washing machines, dryers, microwave
ovens and other white goods have now now joined the
ranks of tellies and home entertainment centres!

Still selling televisions and other white goods, but a different name.
