Walking away from Marjoram’s, back up the
Market Place, we turn into Church Street where,
almost at its end, the left was Smith Electrical at
Number 1 Church Street. Here, the very latest oil-
filled radiators and bulky storage heaters were on
sale, as well as all leading makes of electrical goods.
For those with a Hoover, we bought a green
cylinder pull-along model from them, Smith
Electrical also offered an after-sales service.

“We started married life with an old Hoover
Junior, a hand-me-down from my parents, but this
left much to be desired as most of the dust it had
sucked up escaped through the porous cloth bag!”

A flower shop, Spring Floral Design, now
occupies the shop vacated by Smith Electrical.
