Whilst he was a young bricklayer,
in lodgings and working in
Ingham, a warm friendship sprung
up with the landlady’s daughter.
This friendship ripened during the
course of the next six years, until,
on Easter Monday, 8 April 1912,
Elijah and May Flowerday were
married at Stalham Baptist Church.
They were to enjoy a half-century
of married life and, as Elijah
declared on 8 April 1962:

“I’m always sincerely grateful for
‘my partner’, as no man could ever
have a better one!”
