A MOMENT IN TIME

A moment in time
Quiet waters near Holt.

A Moment in Time,
When all is known
By those around,
Will soon be gone.

On silent wings,
It flies away
Unseen, unheard,
It cannot stay.

Lose ne’er a second,
But live life sublime,
For yours is but,
A Moment in Time.

WELCOME to A MOMENT IN TIME, in which I will try to whisk you back to the North Norfolk of a seemingly long-lost, bygone age, referred to, by so many older folk such as myself, as ‘the good old days’.

We can sample only a few of the delightful towns and villages to be discovered in this quiet unspoiled piece of Norfolk, jutting out in the North Sea as it does, and where better to start our trip than on the coast in Cromer itself – ‘Gem of the Norfolk Coast’. From there we travel to Sheringham, a mere four-and-a-half miles to the west, ‘Twixt Sea and Pine’, another popular seaside resort.

Moving inland we discover Holt, a fine Georgian town, before heading for the coast again and Blakeney with its quayside and yachts, whilst three miles down the road is Stiffkey, with its charming red-brick and flint cottages. Over a humpbacked bridge in the village centre, we head inland to Little Walsingham, a centre for pilgrims from all over the world.
Finally we pay a visit to Heydon, a charming little village once the fictional ‘Weaver’s Green’, a popular serial on television during the mid-1960s. The round trip covers almost sixty miles (please see map).

I hope to be able to share with you my experiences and memories of those bygone days filled with the excitement of youth; everything seemed such an adventure to us in those far-off days, with so much to look forward to and enjoy. For those of us in our early childhood years, during the impatient process of ‘growing up’, the future just couldn’t arrive fast enough. Little did we realise, at the time, we were wishing our lives away!

So, to those youngsters amongst you, read on and be prepared to be enlightened, and for those of you who have lived through those golden years – get ready for a trip of pure nostalgia – and I hope you will enjoy your visit to A MOMENT IN TIME!
