THE TRAIN ARRIVING AT PLATFORM ONE

The train arriving.

The train arriving at Sheringham Station is the first to arrive since
its closure in 1964. It’s June in 1967 and the North Norfolk
Railway, which had pledged to reopen the line from Sheringham
to Weybourne, is taking delivery of its rolling-stock, comprising
a J15 steam locomotive and a B12 express loco, as well as many
carriages, including a Gresley articulated set, and other vehicles.
Today, the North Norfolk Railway runs steam trains all the way to
Holt, through some of the most attractive scenery that Norfolk has
to offer. In this modern age, however, with all its safety
constraints, you are unlikely to see as many people wandering
about by the trackside – but, that day in June ’67 was really
special for the town of Sheringham!
