The
RNLI Lifeboat Shed, at the far end of the west promenade,
was built around 1936 to house the Foresters Centenary, which
was Sheringhams first motor lifeboat, although still equipped
with mast and sails in case the engine failed. Before that time,
there had been two other lifeboats; one, the J C Madge housed
at
the RNLI station situated at the Old Hythe, some distance to the
west of the town, and a private lifeboat, the Henry Ramey Upcher,
stationed in the old boathouse at the top of the Fishermens
Slope.
