THE BEACH INSPECTOR

The beach inspector.

In this photograph, looking west towards the Lifeboat Shed, there
is a bit of activity in the foreground. Mr Life, the Beach Inspector,
stands at the bottom of the slope near the Admiralty Slipway in
conversation with two people, maybe visitors to the town.
Although many families are enjoying themselves in the sea, or
sitting in deck-chairs on the foreshore, the lady leaning against
the wall must feel a bit chilly as she still has her warm coat on!
It is believed that the sturdy wooden breakwater on the right of
the picture was known as the ‘Upcher Breakwater’, which was
named after its benefactor Squire Upcher of Upper Sheringham
Hall.
