THE EAST BEACH

The East Beach.

This is the East Beach, always called the ‘Fishermen’s Beach’
by the Author as he lived in that part of the town. The crab
boats are
beached high up against the promenade, whilst a
group of fishermen gather around one boat for a quiet mardle
about this or that! Deck-chairs left vacant display a slight
breeze from the east, but undeterred holidaymakers sit on the
stones or cluster around in the shelter afforded by the
‘Old Tank’. This was, in fact, a storage tank for the town’s
sewage outfall, with a pipeline taking the unpleasant contents
well out to sea, it is hoped! On the cliff top a line of houses,
with bracing sea views, gradually gain height, ending with the
white-painted Queen Mary flats, with the foothills of
Beeston Bump beyond.
