The Vanguard Way is a unique, 100km long-distance walking trail in south east England. It does not follow particular geographical or historical features, instead it takes in some of the most interesting and breath-taking sights on the way from London to the South Coast.
It was developed by a band of knowledgeable and enthusiastic walkers, who set out to do something different. As well as wonderful scenery, the Vanguard Way passes many pubs (which, just like us, you might be tempted to stop at); has good public transport connections (so you do not have to retrace your steps to collect your car at the end of the day); and provides a walking link from London to Paris, should you have the energy - it's easy, just take the ferry at the end of the Vanguard Way from Newhaven to Dieppe and keep on walking! If your ambitions are more modest, you can walk the Vanguard Way in sections. We have divided it into 5 parts, but you can walk it in more or less stages of your own devising.
