The present Manx Airlines came into being with the merger of British Midland and Air UK Isle of Man routes in 1982, with a new operating base on the Isle of Man.

Nine years later Manx Airlines created a subsidury company, Manx Airlines Europe, to allow operations to extend into mainland Europe. Manx Airlines Europe became a British Airways franchise operator in January 1995 and then in September 1996 amalgamated with Loganair to become British Regional Airlines. The holding company floated on the stock exchange in June 1998 becoming British Regional Air Lines Group plc. The group has become the biggest British Airways franchise operator and in March 2001 British Airways annnounced that it had made an offer to buy the Group, a transaction that is likely to be completed in July.

This book details this complex story and the individual histories of the 127 aircraft that have been part of it. Compiled and written with the full co-operation of British Regional Air Lines Group, it will be of interest to both the serious aviation enthusiast and those interested in the Isle of Man and its vast transport heritage.
