The weekly Reading's Talking Newspaper enables blind, visually impaired and listeners with other disabilities to keep in touch with the local community. For housebound listeners, the talking newspaper can provide a sense of belonging in the wider community with familiar and friendly voices in the home each week. Side 1 of the tape, which lasts for 45 minutes, contains articles from Reading's newspapers, The Reading Evening Post and the Reading Chronicle. The articles are taken from the issues of the previous week leading up to recording day. There are usually 3 newsreaders plus the editor each week, providing a variety of voices for the listeners. Side 2 of the tape, (also 45 minutes) starts with the death notices followed by magazine style features covering a wide range of interests. For example, Adrian Lawson's, wild life reports, new titles added to the Reading library's audio book list and recipes.
