The American Society of Indexers

The only professional organisation in the USA solely devoted to the advancement of indexing, abstracting and database building.

Genealogy Indexing and Transcription Special Interest Group of The American Society of Indexers

This is a relatively new special interest group whose mission statement was only finalised in July 2000. They hold meetings via the internet and their first project is to "Genealogy Index of Indexes". It is not clear whether the latter is limited to the USA or has world-wide scope.

UK based society dedicated to transcribing, indexing and publishing of the heraldic visitations of counties, parish registers or any manuscripts relating to genealogy, family history and heraldry
