Great Central Railway home and distant - 7mm/1ft.

oblique view with both arms "on"
This signal has a tapered hardwood post. Other parts of the model are brass with the exception of the lamps and the finial, which are white metal castings. All the fittings are attached to the post with brass wire and epoxy resin adhesive, making them very secure.

The post is fixed into a brass coupling to make it easy to remove and replace on a layout. To take this picture the coupling has been mounted on the side of a wooden block.

This model has not been weathered.
home clear, distant at caution There is a working slot mechanism which you can see on the post below the distant arm. This controls the distant (as it did on the prototype) so that it will only clear to the off position if the home is already off. Here the home has been cleared but the distant arm is prevented from clearing. The balance lever (with its weight to the left of the post) is connected to the yellow distant arm. It has a bar which is arranged to rest on the top of the other two balance arms. It can only drop, moving the distant to "off", when both the other arms are moved.

The oval pattern of the balance weights is correct for the Great Central.
