LNER tubular post shunt signal - 7mm/1ft.

![]() Above is a prototype shunt signal photographed in Scarborough station. On the left is the model signal installed on my layout. It is not fitted with a white diamond as there would be no track circuiting in a small goods yard. In steam days the grey parts of the signal would have been black. |

Another view of the model. It has been "pulled off" to allow the ex-Great Northern saddle tank to shunt towards the camera. |

The signal post was fitted with a square plug-in base which fits into a simple socket screwed to the underside of the baseboard.. Look carefully and you can see the small brass tube inside the plug. This is the guide for the operating wire. This is a very neat way of making a tubular post signal easily removeable but is only suitable for models with a single semaphore arm. |

This is the completed signal, ready to plug into its socket on the layout. The drive wire could be made any length to suit the intended drive. A collar could be fitted to engage with a drive crank. On my layout this signal is driven by a bounce mechanism, powered by memory wire. This makes the arm move very realistically and is almost silent in operation. |

These three pictures were taken outside on an attractive, crisp January day. The sky slowly changed during the session. |
