LNWR 45' D381 full brake - before and after. O gauge model.

before

after
The client had bought the van painted immaculately in LNWR livery. It looked nice but too clean on his railway, where all the other stock is weathered to some degree. I first sprayed the van with matt varnish to protect the transfers. I then added a layer of sooty grime and then cleaned it off so that traces remain in the corners of the panels and around hinges etc. I also painted the white roof a dark grey. The ends and underframe were left looking much dirtier. No rust was added to the underframe as coaches were well cared for in pre-grouping days.
