Stanier Duchess. Gauge 0 model.

This model was brought to me damaged and with an indifferent finish. It was painted in the late LMS livery of black with straw lining, but renumbered and carrying the early "British Railways" in full on the tender. The lining was a bright lemon yellow and in places looked rather unsteady, so before weathering the loco I retouched it to correct the more obvious errors. |

To weather the model I started by dry-brushing the detail. The wheels and motion were painted with a satin enamel mix, black with a dash of yellow, to look like the typically oily finish of a working loco. The rest of the engine was lightly oversprayed with a layer of dusty grime. This toned down the lining so that it no longer dominated the model and made its colour far less strident. |

Both the owner and I are very pleased with the result. The livery, which did look very unconvincing and indeed spoilt the effect, now looks good and enhances a well detailed scale model. |
