The
Site
The site is in Uplands,
Stroud. Springfield Road to the north, Slad Road to the south. Park Gardens is
adjacent to the site on the west. The ground slopes towards the south and is
mostly enclosed by trees with views across the Slad Valley. It is a 3-5 minute
walk to the Town centre. Trains to London take 1 ˝ hours. Stroud is famous for
once having the largest LETS (alternative currency) in the country, a Green
Mayor and Green Town Council, there are many artists, musicians, health
practitioners, campaigning groups, different schools, home educators etc. There
is a stream running along the western boundary of the site, this will be
further exposed and developed as part of the Sustained Urban Drainage Scheme
(SUDS). We received detailed planning permission for a Cohousing Community on
12th June 2001. The site
feels just right and is waiting for cohousing – expected completion summer 2002.
Feel free to wonder through it and then
have a meal at Woodruffs Café on the High Street, our favourite organic
restaurant. You can buy or order the 2 books, Cohousing and the Pattern
Language next door in the Stroud Bookshop.
