SHROPSHIRE NONCONFORMIST CHAPELS

Primitive Methodist Chapel, Church Stretton
Primitive Methodist Chapel, Church Stretton
This chapel, built of Ruabon brick with Grinshill stone dressings was designed by A. B. & W. Scott Deakin of Shrewsbury, & built by Mr T. Speake of Church Stretton in 1906. The foundation stones were laid on Easter Monday 15th April 1906 and the chapel opened on Monday the 6th August. The cost of the building was about 1300, and it was designed to hold about 250 worshippers. It is still used as the Methodist church in 2018, the interior having been remodelled in 2006 for its centenary, and is in a good condition. A Sunday School, the small white building to the right of the chapel, was erected in 1956.
