SHROPSHIRE'S NONCONFORMIST CHAPELS

[former] Wettles Primitive Methodist Chapel, Leamore Common, Wistanstow [former] Wettles Primitive Methodist Chapel, Leamore Common, Wistanstow
There was a Primitive Methodist congregation meeting at Leamore Common by 1851 when there were reported to be 40 worshippers attending their Sunday services according to the Religious Census of that year. This chapel's foundation stones were laid on Monday 13th October 1862. After the ceremony a public tea was held in the local Wesleyan chapel. The chapel was free of debt in 1884 and was completely renovated in 1898. The date of the chapel's closure is not yet known. The chapel & adjoining cottage were subsequently sold and have now been demolished. The chapel was de-registered as a place of worship on 24th January 1980. The site was empty in 2005, only the front brick wall remained. Click here here for another view of the chapel while it was still standing, after the cottage had been demolished.
