SHROPSHIRE'S NONCONFORMIST CHAPELS

[former] Madeley Wood Wesleyan Methodist Chapel [former] Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Madeley Hill Road, Madeley Wood
The first Wesleyan Methodist chapel was erected in 1776-7 by John Fletcher of Madeley. On 16th July 1811 the chapel belonging to Mrs Mary Fletcher, widow, was licensed at the county quarter sessions by twelve local Methodists including three members of the Harper family & William Cranage. The chapel has a tablet over the doorway but it is without inscription and there is a lunette in the gable above. The chapel was enlarged in 1821. The chapel continued in use until it was replaced by a new large chapel on the opposite side of the road in 1837. The building in 2004 was used as the offices of Nicol Jones & Lomax, landscape architects.
