Perhaps the sweetest apple grown at Cross Lanes, Gala is a favourite with children. The variety has almost no trace of acidity at all and stores exceptionally well. The flavour is subtle but pleasant, although it is variable between years. Gala is a key variety in the southern hemisphere, particularly in New Zealand, but it has only recently been widely introduced in the UK.
