Friends of Frances Bardsley School

What a wonderful occasion this was! A chance to renew friendships, exchange news - happy as well as sad. To go back & relive ones earlier years which really gave one an overall perspective of life.
How much hard work the Chairman & her Committee put in, we shall never know. They all deserve medals!

Report of Service of Thanksgiving,
Thursday 11th May 2006, at St. Alban's Church, Romford,

Our service, which launched the school's centenary celebrations, was a joyful occasion, enhanced by the young musicians from the FBS.

The Wind Band premiered a 'Fanfare for Frances', composed by the school's Head of Music, Mr. Silk which was so popular the ladies asked for it to be repeated at the end of the service. The Chamber Choir sang a Benediction by John Rutter. We all sang the school hymn and Psalm 127 (in Anglican chant) which was the basis for the school anthem introduced in 1956 for the Golden Jubilee.

The Head Girl read the lesson from the Old Testament and the FFBS Chairwoman read the lesson from the New Testament. The service was conducted by Father Hingley, who is a school governor and Suzanne Philipps, current Head of the school and FFBS President, gave the address.

It is hoped that a transcript of this address will be available to buy, with proceeds going to the school's Centenary Fund.

The centre page of the 'Romford Recorder' for Friday 19th May, carried a report on the Thanksgiving Service, remarking that
'the ladies interrupted their buffet lunch (provided by the ladies of the church) to gather outside St. Alban's church hall in glorious sunshine to have their photo taken by the press.' This colour photo is accompanied by a piece about the service, the centenary and the school's history.

They also reprinted the photo of the pupils releasing balloons from the Heath Park site in 2004 on the day they left that building and moved the Lower School to the extended Brentwood Road site.
