Durham Summer School for Young Musicians
DSSYM typical day's activities

A strong creative and dramatic thread links all the activities with a different theme each year, from Bach to the Beatles, from Russia to Space to Magic to Tall Ships.

Informal activities follow the theme with crazy games, sports and treasure hunts maintaining a creative link with the improvisation, composition and musical sharing which form the heart of the week.

Students who have never stepped on a stage before discover skills in music and dramatic performance which they never knew they had.

Each student's musical skills and creativity are challenged and extended, true to the spirit of playing with and exploring music which lay behind all Richard Addison's work.

"I have learnt so much at Summer School - not only to compose and play in time, but how to work in a team"
