RAF SWANTON MORLEY
1978 to 1983

RAF Swanton Morley was the home of the RAF Central Servicing and Developement Establishment (CSDE). Additionally it also housed the RAF Maintenance Data centre for all RAF aircraft. It was a typical WW11 Base and had the largest grass airfield in the UK. However being basically a head quarters unit it had no operational flying aircraft.

In 1978 I was posted into the Supply Services and Management Wing (SSMW). I was employed in the aircraft spares provisioning and scaling flight, reponsible for reprovisioning. Having never worked in an office environment previously or doing that type of work, it was a very steep learning curve! Simply understanding commonly used abreviations at Swanton Morley was akin to learning a whole new language and it was several months before I felt comfortable in my work.
