ROYAL AIR FORCE
VC 10 AIR REFUELLING SORTIE
Another memorable sortie was in this VC10 Tanker. Several members of  Tornado Aircraft Servicing Flight were given the opportunity of seeing at first hand, Buccaneers, Lightnings and finally Tornado's taking on fuel during an excercise. I was given permission to take photographs in the rear of the aircraft adjacent to two huge fuel tanks! It was freezing cold and the windows were dirty which prevented me getting pin sharp photographs. but it was usually an area where passengers were not allowed to go.
It's not long before the Buccaneers arrive and make contact with the refuelling hose. Having taken on fuel they swiftly depart.  Equally swiftly the Lighnings appear seemingly from nowhere, take on fuel then pose for the camera off the Starboard wing!
Tornado's arrive, seen firstly as rapidly approaching black dots they skim the top of the clounds before climbing to formate with the tanker.
Finally it's time for a photo call!
Ever closer!
