Sixpenny Handley 2010

What a wonderful start to a rally! We arrived to such lovely weather which stayed with us throughout. Sometimes it felt a little too hot, but we all coped with it in our various ways.

We were greeted by Joy and Peter with a lovely smile and a most welcome drink. The first evening we met to find out what was organised and to greet members we knew and those that were new to the club. We welcomed Anne and Croydon Parsons, Nicola and Steve Reid and Elaine and Philip Souster who were all on their first rally.

The days were spent visiting places in the area. Gold Hill in Shaftesbury was popular – this is the ‘Hovis advert’ hill. Some travelled to Poole, Sherbourne and Swanage. Some took advantage of the weather to stay near the camp and catch up on their reading or sleeping!!

Thursday evening we met for a very nice fish and chip (scampi, sausage or pie) supper in the café on site. We retired to Joy and Peter’s hospitality tent for a dessert. We had a lovely choice of food and Anne and Croydon produced a large Chocolate cake to celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary. Thank you Joy, Peter, Anne and Croydon.

Friday saw a group of us meeting in Salisbury for a guided tour of the city, which was interesting and most informative, and finally ending with a nice cream tea.

We had a raffle which was won by Iris and Michael Hoyland with Kate and Chris Fearn taking 2nd prize. We had a quiz on Confectionery and Anne and Croydon won this with 42 correct answers out of 44 questions.

Steve Reid would like to thank Victor Harris for his kindness in lending him a longer cable for his electric point, which saved him having to move his caravan elsewhere.

Three couples had to leave us un Sunday and two more on Monday. The remaining group was meeting in the village at the Roebuck Inn for a Monday evening meal. The Roebuck is not normally open for food on Monday but did so specially for us – and charged only Ł10 for two courses. Unfortunately we had to leave on Monday but we have heard that the meal was a great success.
