Rally report from Alison Mottram (Vice Chair)
Fakenham Rally and AGM 2011
Well we arrived in plenty of warm sunshine to greet us for the 13th
annual general meeting of the Gobur Club.
We were welcomed as warmly as ever by our hosts for the week David and
Margaret, Alan and Brenda, with a much needed cup of tea and
coffee. After which we set about setting up our caravan and awning ,
which kept most who had also joined us on the Wednesday amused for the
rest of the afternoon trying to guess how many hours it would take this
time. (Those of you who know our small awning will understand this )
and for those of you who don’t will have to find us on our next rally!!
Anyway the weather remained kind for the entire week just giving a
slight shower overnight Saturday and tried Sunday morning without much
avail. We all met each morning in the long bar as usual for coffee and
any information needed about the day’s events.
On Saturday we all proceeded up to the Wensum Arms for the 13th AGM.
This went off extremely smoothly indeed in fact was one of the quickest
meetings to date. We now have a new Chairman Alan Barnes
over from David Bray who has finished his term in office New vice
chairlady Alison Mottram taking over from Alan and a new committee
member John Lowery. Many thanks have to be included to the
committee members who are continuing with their work and support, also
mentioning all Gobur members who were able to attend the AGM and rally
and thoughts to those who could not make it this time around.
The carvery meal in the evening went ahead as usual despite a few
hiccups along the way. Even the rain held off which I’m sure
the dogs tied up in the garden were grateful for, they got their just
rewards as the chef rewarded them with all the knobbly bits off
the joints (lucky pooches).
Sunday morning saw the results of the quiz being announced. A
closely run quiz, congrats to Val and Gordon the worthy winners, chosen
by the toss of a coin. Mary also gave out the prizes to the raffle and
we collectively managed to raise over £100. Thanks to all who
contributed to this wonderful achievement. We also opened our awning
and caravan up for public viewing in order for myself and Chris to get
to know as many of the Gobur owners onsite as possible.(Just didn’t
expect everyone at once!!) A very enjoyable experience.
We ended a very enjoyable rally with a superb hog roast and buffet on
the Monday night which considering the size of the hog kept
all extremely well fed that night and the next day. It was Goburs at
the ready on the Tues morning when the majority of us packed up ready
to move onto the next destination be it work, home or another part of
Many thanks to David & Margaret, Alan & Brenda for a
peaceful enjoyable week despite the ‘crows’. Looking forward
the future meetings and rally adventures.
