Fakenham Rally & AGM 2012

We arrived on the Wednesday shortly before Alan and Brenda (the Rally organisers and Chairman) in damp conditions and set about getting the preparations ready for all of our fellow members who were hoping to join us for the week’s events.

Although the weather took a turn for the worse it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit or sense of wanting to achieve a successful rally.

The middle of the field where a lot of us were originally booked up had become a mud pit so Chris and Alan worked exceptionally hard in reorganising everyone’s pitches at short notice,

The rest of the next two day’s went past quickly as old friends and new joined us gradually throughout the day. Brenda and I made sure the tea was constantly flowing throughout.

On Saturday we had our AGM this time in new premises which was the sports bar on site. A lovely airy room and plenty of room to move about in as well as a better view made it a very popular choice with everyone involved-a sure winner in future.

We said a fond farewell to Val our secretary who had served her time on the committee ,a wonderful lady with a fantastic laugh who is sorely missed ,however we welcome with open arms Helen Clare who is replacing Val as secretary who I know will do a fantastic job, and also welcomed back Christine Kenyon and Joy Stovell as valued committee members .I myself had intended to resign due to personal circumstances which had affected my family earlier this year and although I tendered my resignation at the Agm, no one was forthcoming to replace me so after a long talk with some good friends and words of wisdom from others I approached the committee to ask to stay on as vice chair until May when I will be asking to be nominated for the Chair alongside the other members.

The meal that was provided again by the sports bar in the evening was excellent despite a couple of hiccups over the vegetarian option

On the Monday we introduced a “faith supper” evening and although it took some explaining of what this entailed those who went enjoyed it immensely even though peoples generosity exceeded our wish for enough to feed themselves .

Some of our members unfortunately became ill during the rally and I hope that they have recovered well.

The weather was very intermittent during the whole proceedings but overall everyone who attended said they had a good time and we are looking forward to the rest of the season with continued enthusiasm and interest of where it will take us

God speed and a hearty hello to all our previous members who no longer can be with us and a huge hello to all our new members who have joined since!
