Fakenham Rally and AGM 2013

Arriving on the racecourse site, one day early, shortly after our rally organiser and club chairman Alan and Brenda Barnes along with their assistants Alison & Chris Mottram who had many things to organise. We were pleased to find a nice dry field for pitching on compared to last years muddy one and were among five outfits that had arrived early for the rally.

Thursday saw club member’s caravans, starting to appear across the site totalling 35 outfits from early morning onwards, their awnings were erected without any difficulty, as later a strong wind got up, which much reduced stayed with us throughout the rally. In the evening we went down to the long bar for coffee and rally programme details along with Saturday’s AGM and evening dinner arrangements.

We went down for coffee, at 10am, the next morning for a friendly chat, which half way through, gave Alan a chance to ring his hand bell. Giving him the silence needed, as our town crier, to make his announcements. Mary also started her raffle selling campaign today.

Saturday morning we met at 9.30am for coffee to allow the AGM to commence at 10.30am in the function room of the Sports Club. The agenda as usual was completed smoothly with the question of club insurance creating a discussion. Our treasurer’s report of the Audited Accounts finished up by recommending an increase of 50p in members subscriptions to cover increased postal charges and was agreed to. Due to Alan Barnes tenure as chairman coming to an end and because of outside commitments, Alison Mottram was not able to take his place as normal. Derek Ward kindly agreed to step into Alan’s shoes for the time being to become chairman once again. Steve Jones agreed to become vice chairman and both were duly voted onto the committee. Good wishes to both of them and hope its all plain sailing.

A relaxing evening was spent at the Sports Club function room, along with Richard and Steven and their wives from Gobur, where we sat down to a tasty pork and turkey carvery, followed with crumble or éclairs . Our president Derick Irving gave a thank you speech to the chairman and his wife along with their assistants for organising a successful rally plus evening meal.

Sunday coffee morning was held at the normal time of 10.30am when Mary’s raffle was drawn and the answer to the quiz were given, with a tie taking place as two people had the same number of correct answers. The evening saw Alison and Chris Mottram invite every one to a farewell get together in the long bar (although they are remaining members of the club) where everyone again had a good chat. How do we find so much to talk about??

Monday after coffee, most of us started to take down our awnings with the wind getting stronger again making it a precarious job, we were all grateful, when willing hands came along to hold them down. A “Faith” supper was held in the evening, where once again a good and varied supply of food was brought and eaten by club members.

Tuesday morning saw most of those who were left, as some had departed earlier, packing up to travel on our way to other commitments, with several going straight to the next rally at Rudston.
