Barnard Castle Rally 2014

Everybody who attended the rally would like to wish Brenda and Jackie (who had to leave early and had to spend a few days in hospital)  a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you on a rally in the near future.

We would all like to thank Alan and Brenda for all their hard work leading up to the rally with the organisation of the location, booking of the hall and pub, booklets, quiz and castle drive, without this the rally would not have been possible. Thank-you.

David and Rosemary did an excellent job of standing in for Brenda and Alan, and Vic and Joan for assisting them.

There were 12 units in total and 23 people.  We were warmly welcomed on arrival with a much appreciated cup of tea or coffee.

We were given a pack containing a pocket guide to Explore the North Pennines, a map of Barnard Castle, and of course the ‘quiz’, where we had clues to name TV Programs and Films.

We had a welcome coffee evening on the Thursday night and then met each morning in the Rally Tent where we had a drink, shared ideas of places to visit, discussed forthcoming events, caught up with old friends and made new ones, and had a general chit chat.

The weather was very kind to us and apart from the odd shower we were able to make the most of the Rally.

Places people found interesting were Beamish, Bowlees Visitor Centre, High and Low Force Waterfalls, Barnard Castle, Eggleston Hall, Richmond, and the general outstanding beauty of the local countryside.

On Saturday night we went to a local Hall for our Fish and Chip supper. To begin the evening we had a touchy feely game!! (objects in a bag) Joan kept us all well under control while David and Vic went for our supper. We then ate our excellent supper followed by cakes and tea.  This was followed by an energetic Castle Drive Game, with  David being our Director, fun was had by all.

Yvonne kindly ran the Gobur Raffle raising money for the Gobur Charities.  On Monday morning the raffle was drawn and the quiz winner announced and prizes awarded.

On Monday evening we all went to the Fox and Hound Pub for a meal which Rosemary co-ordinated.  It was lovely and everybody had a good time chatting and eating.

On Tuesday morning the early birds got a soaking as they packed up but this did not deter from a wonderful rally thank-you Rosemary, David, Vic and Joan.
