Doddington Rally 2014

We don't know who upset the weather gods when we arrived at Fields End Water but boy, was the rain coming down. Did it dampen our spirits for the forthcoming rally? Of course not. It's funny though, that the weather always improves quite a bit by the time we have all pitched up!

Wendy and Keith have found a lovely, peaceful site at Doddington and the pretty villages, countryside and the Fenland all added to make this a very nice spot indeed.

The organisers and one other van had arrived earlier in the week but the day before the rallyers were due, some gypsy travellers decided to invade the field. A heart stopping moment for the site owner and Wendy and Keith as it seemed they were not too keen to move on. However, after police intervention, they left the next morning – and the site owner ensured from then on that the field gate was locked. Thanks to Steve, John and Keith for clearing up all the rubbish that was left behind.

As for the rally itself – it was just great. There were plenty of places to visit or walk around. Too many places to mention but from local churches to Duxford to Ely, we all had a lovely time. Everyone smiled as the sun came out but we were not to be let off that lightly – the bring and share evening on Saturday was interrupted by a decent thunderstorm – just at the time when we were to arrive at the Hospitality Tent! Well done to all the food carriers who managed to get the eats there intact – not one soggy roll in sight – it was all wonderfully presented and very enjoyable. Cakes were for “afters” and Elaine had also bought along a home baked ginger cake which was soon devoured . A dice game followed which Joy won and then a guessing game which Maurice won. We all stayed on into the night and it was quite late when we all drifted back to our vans.

On Monday evening, we all made our way to the Anchor Inn – a few minutes drive into Doddington where, once again, the food was very good and the rally was rounded off very nicely.

Thanks again to Wendy and Keith for running this rally – it was very enjoyable and for us, very relaxing. We hope they will return here sometime in the future so we can see all the places we missed.

Thanks must also go to Pat and John as assistants and last but not least to Yvonne who did such a sterling job in carrying on “Mary's Raffle” and raised another £35 to add to Richards charity fund.
