Thursday April 3rd saw a gathering of 16 Carousels arriving at Lady
Heyes Touring Caravan Park on a day memorable for the media
reports of extraordinary air pollution over the whole country. However
we were not perturbed by this, and 37 humans and 5 canines (including
Rusty and Tinny!!) happily pitched up in our own circular area of the
Tom and Helena welcomed everyone on arrival with a cuppa.
Once the pollution had dispersed we had wonderful views including the Jodrell bank telescope disc.
The site had a number of fascinating craft outlets etc which were interesting to explore.
The welcome pack contained a couple of ingenious quizzes. One was the
name of a pub which we were asked to depict with a drawing and put this
in our front window. So the Picasso skills were put to the test and some
amazing artistic efforts were soon on display. We looked like kit
inspectors going to each pitch, clip board in hand, to rate the artistic
efforts and identify (hopefully) the pub name.
Tom led a couple of great local walks, the second of which was a strenuous and some 8 miles in length up to the Frodsham Hills along the sandstone trail rewarding us with some amazing views across the Mersey to Wales.
Saturday night after a fish and chip supper in the onsite restaurant, which was opened specially for us, we had a very energetic and frantic beetle drive. Not the average beetle-ours had body, head, wings, legs, eyes and feelers to shake the dice to gain!
Monday coffee meet was fun as the raffle and quiz winners were
announced and prizes awarded.
The area had a wide choice of interesting places to visit and our welcome packs had plenty of information leaflets.
Monday evening, the last evening of enjoyable rally, we had a delicious meal at the Travellers Rest (not one of the pub quiz names!) which ended with an impromptu sing song with music provided by Tom playing his mouth organ.
After an overnight temperature of 5 degrees and showers the morning was dry and bright for our pack up.
Thank you to Tom and Helena for a very good rally.
