York Rally 2015

Twenty five members joined the rally at York having had a sunny day for their travels.

We were welcomed as usual at the evening meeting by Margaret & David Bray ably assisted by Margaret & Alan Shangster. The plans for the rally were laid out and sadly Margaret & David announced this was to be their last rally with us as they were giving up their caravan after many years in the club. To mark their last ever Gobur rally Margaret had baked some really nice cakes which everyone enjoyed immensely.

A rather novel quiz had been arranged by them in lieu of the usual ones found on other rallies. We were to draw pictures depicting place names in the country and other rallyers were to guess what these place names were. The pictures were placed in each of the caravan windows so everyone had to go round each one and at the same time meeting other members, a great way to break the ice! The results were announced on Sunday morning along with the rally draw.

Saturday evening was spent enjoying a fish & chip supper and having a game of Rocket Drive, a variation of the beetle drive in which rallyers had to throw a dice and try to assemble the parts of the ‘Rocket’ steam locomotive. As usual this was enjoyed immensely by everyone, the only thing that spoilt the day was that Margaret Bray had a fall while on her way to order the fish & chips and had many painful bruises.

The rally was finished off in style at The Ship Inn, Strensall. The meal and the company was excellent, a good way to end an enjoyable rally, even the weather was kind to us most of the time.
