Cornwall Rally 2015

What a lovely location for the rally run by Rosemary and David. What a great time we had assisting them. Little Winnick is a treasure in the making. Heidi and Richard have turned a run down site into something special – OK there are no toilets yet on the rally field but we don't think that deterred from everyone's enjoyment of their stay here.

Christine and David from God's Own Country (according to David), were the first arrivals of the day. The Carousels then arrived – nicely timed apart for us tea makers – with Pat and Russell last but bear in mind they drove down from Merseyside in one day.

At the welcome evening in the hospitality suite, David announced that a group trip to The Eden Project had been organised for the Friday and a Knock Out Boules match with a half time treat of a Cornish Strawberry Cream Tea for the Sunday. Everyone was then free to enjoy all the wonderful places that Cornwall has to offer – really, far too much for one weeks stay!

The weather was a bit variable but this didn't seem to deter us hardy caravaners! Coffee evenings were decided upon for early starts and we think between us, we covered most of the popular areas around.

Locally, in Mevagissey, it was Carnival week and some of us even ventured out in the evening to enjoy the fun that was being had by locals and holidaymakers alike. There was a magnificent firework display on the last night of the Carnival which could be seen and heard from the site but it was all over before too long.

The Eden Project was once again thoroughly enjoyed by all. We have to congratulate three of our group who decided to become “high fliers” there. Pat Felton, David Aylott and David Exley took part in the Skywire Experience and all said how much they enjoyed it!

The boules tornament was won by Chris Fearn so well done to him and to Yve and Ben Stawson who – with the help of Peggy won the rally quiz. Peggy being Yve and Ben's latest puppy in training for the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Actually, Yve did offer to take the husbands out into the field for some obedience training too but us wives were too slow to take her up on it!

It was nice to have Carol West drop by one day for a chat. She is always out and about with her Carousel and is always happy to tell us of her latest adventures.

Yvonne once again did a sterling job with Mary's Raffle – raising £65 – this being made up from tickets sold and donations – a sizeable one being from Joan and Vic Lunn who were due to be helpers but because of ongoing health problems have now had to make a decision to give up their van. We would like to wish them well for the future.

We also hope Kate Fearn is feeling much better now, she was taken to hospital during the rally but was able to rejoin us after a few hours in A and E.

Well some of us may have come home “penny liggan* ” but definitely not “leary* ” after an excellent time.

Thank you Rosemary and David for booking everything and thank you to all the ralliers for coming Without you, we would not have had yet another brilliant rally.

Angela and Derek Ward

* Penny liggan and Leary are Cornish words for penniless and hungry!
