 Bristol Rally 2017

Organisers Elaine, Alan, Wendy and Keith warmly greeted us all with a welcome cuppa on arrival.  There were 10 vans altogether on the rally.  Thursday morning started very wet but as the day progressed the weather changed for the better and though windy at times the rest of the week stayed dry.

Knights Folly is a lovely site between Bath and Bristol.  The owners of the site had just completed the building of a toilet and shower block.  When they had a CS, the toilet/shower was in a shed.  George Clark from the Channel 4 programme “Small Spaces” visited their small space which was laid out with a lot of thought: there were books, tourist information eg. places to visit and eat.

Bus stops were close to the site and you could get to Bath and Bristol very easily. Of course there were lots of places to visit in the big towns such as S.S. Great Britain in Bristol. Locally there were events on such as a Carnival and Car Boot at the weekend which some of us visited.

In the evenings we met for coffee and discussed our days. Saturday night we had a dine together and Elaine provided desserts.  We had a game “Mr & Mrs” where Elaine asked the ladies 6 questions regarding their husbands, then 6 questions to the gents regarding their wives.  Much hilarity ensued and in the end Steve and I were the winners.

Mary’s Raffle was drawn on Sunday morning and raised £41 for Richards Charities.

All too soon it was Monday and everyone apart from Dickie and Tom packed their awnings away and got ready for leaving on Tuesday morning.  We went to the Globe Inn just out Keynsham for our last night dinner which was enjoyed by all.  Elaine revealed the winners of the two quizzes which were set. Alan created one regarding “Rivers” and Elaine thinking that the rivers quiz too difficult created one regarding “Sweets and Chocolate”.  Helen and Maurice Clare won the River Quiz and I am embarrassed to say that Steve and I won the Sweet and Chocolate Quiz.

We all departed on Tuesday morning to our different parts of the country having had a great rally.

Thanks go to Wendy and Keith for assisting at Knights Folly.

Big thanks must go to Elaine and Alan as this was their first rally and was deemed by all to have been a great success.  Hopefully it hasn’t put them off and look forward to another rally next year.
