 Solway View Rally 2017

This rally was well attended with 11 vans and 3 dogs arriving on the first day all receiving a warm greeting and a welcome "cuppa" from Steve, Yvonne, Dickie and Annette. The rally pitches were located in a part of Solway View which meant that no other campers were nearby and well-spaced apart we all managed to set up in warm sunshine. For the first evening Steve and Yvonne had prepared a THREE (!) course meal for us all which was not only very welcome after our journeys but absolutely delicious! Our welcome packs included information on the local area, a quiz set by Dickie and a "draw the place-name" quiz set by Yvonne.

Our first full day arrived dry and bright, the campsite views and walks through the wood to the beach were lovely with views over the water and quiet lanes to walk. Coffee was arranged for the evening in a converted small barn on the site - conversations buzzed with us all catching up with friends and telling each other where we'd been and what we'd seen.

For Saturday evening Steve Yvonne Dickie and Annette had arranged for us to have fish and chips from Polar Bites in nearby Kirkcudbright which we had pre-ordered through our rally organisers. The restaurant had laid out tables for us so that we all sat together and were very efficient with serving our food and drinks, the portions were excellent and we all felt very full after that meal! After eating we all went back to the camp-site for an evening coffee and a game or two of Beetle which, after much furious dice-throwing was won by Malcolm.

Sunday dawned very wet and very windy and a coffee morning was held for those who wanted it, we spent the day snug in our Gobur just relaxing. Monday was another wet and misty day but most people went out (Gobur owners don't let the weather get them down!). We travelled to the Galloway Peninsular - a long way to drive but well worth it to see the lighthouse and little museum, RSPB reserve and sample the food in the very reasonably priced café.

For Tuesday a trip to the local Ice Cream producing farm had been arranged which we didn't go to but at coffee that evening everyone that went said it was delicious and bemoaned the fact that Gobur fridge ice compartments weren't big enough for them to purchase any. Because Malcolm and Kate had to leave early the competition results were announced - Russell and Pat won Dickies quiz (we all now know the correct answer to the question "what is measured by Truss weight" (!!); Yvonne's quiz was won by Russell and Pat too. Mary's Raffle (which raised over £70.00) was also drawn.

Wednesday morning was dry so we were all busy getting awnings down and festooning the picnic tables with groundsheets to dry before packing away. For our last evening together we all took our own evening meals to our little barn to eat together and Steve and Yvonne supplied a good array of desserts and cheese and biscuits for us all to enjoy. A HUGE THANK YOU to Steve Yvonne Dickie and Annette for organising and running such a lovely rally on a beautiful clean site.
