Foxhill Rally 2018

We arrived at the site quite early, before the start of the rally. Weather was cool and windy but by the end of the day the sun was shining and it was getting warmer and warmer - back to the temperatures we'd all been used to over the previous weeks. This set the scene for the rest of the rally, apart from a brief thunderstorm during Monday night.

The site was in a pleasant wooded area and very spacious and quiet (in spite of the proximity of the A64). The Wardens were helpful and friendly.

When everyone had arrived on Thursday we had an evening get together in the meeting tent, it became a little too cool to sit outside, and Alan, Elaine, Wendy and Keith filled us in on the prog30072ramme for the week - nothing too arduous - just to enjoy ourselves.

Many people took advantage of the very good bus service to visit local attractions, York, Malton, Scarborough, The National Railway Museum, Castle Howard, Scampston Hall, whilst others preferred to use the park and ride or drive direct to their destinations. Because the weather was so good we were able to sit outside in the evening until quite late.

On Saturday night we had a bring your own meal get together with the rally organisers providing desserts. A guessing game was played based on secrets which soon deteriorated into great hilarity and was enjoyed by everyone.

Alan had devised one of his usual fiendish quizzes and this was won by Margaret and Alan Shankster. Alan became Mary for the rally and the raffle tickets raised 54 for the charities.

A meal had been arranged for Monday night at a pub, The Ship, in a nearby village, and everyone enjoyed this very much and said their meal was excellent.

All too soon it was Tuesday morning and time to pack up and leave. Quite a few people left early because of long journeys home but the weather remained good for folding down and driving.

This was a really enjoyable rally and much thanks for this go to Alan and Elaine and their able assistants Wendy and Keith.
