 Daisy Bank Rally 2019

Driving along the road you knew you were almost at Daisy Bank when the road marking read “ARAF” and you wondered if ignoring it might result in a tap on the shoulder from the “HEDDLU”? Crossing the English–Welsh was a non-event with no passport control!
The site is very attractive and well run, with beautiful vistas across the Shropshire hills. It is divided into 4 areas & ours had the best views. Alan & Sylvia were already pitched up and welcomed each arrival. Nine Carousels, housing 15 of us plus Tom, Tinker & Scally to wag their tails to all, soon erected their caravans &put up awnings. Our pitches were hard standings and fully serviced. Luxury indeed.

In our welcome packs was a quiz sheet and a white raffle ticket.

Alan soon had his trademark model railway set up and travelling round the track on his pitch. Perhaps it was en-route to....

LLanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwillllantysiliogogogoch!!!

We welcomed Janet as a new Carousel owner, to her first rally. She must have SUCH a long list of jobs after gleaning hints and tips from us all.

The area is a paradise for walkers with Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley offering breath-taking scenery. There are also a number of historic castles to visit. Newly restored Ironbridge is also not too far and is now looking magnificent following 18 months of work on it. This work was completed this January.

We gathered daily at Alan & Sylvia’s for coffee meets & chats etc. Saturday was “interesting” with storm Hannah lashing her fury, rain as if it was going out of fashion and very windy. The temperature was on a downward spiral and mid-morning was MINUS 1.7 degrees. We wondered if the rain might turn to snow? It calmed down as the day wore on and warmed up a little.

That evening we all gathered at Hyssington Village hall bringing our own first course of supper & enjoying the selection of afters, teas & coffees provided by Alan & Sylvia.

Then followed “who’s who”, which was identifying happy Carousellers from their photos aged under 5 !! Some beautiful photos, but who was who!! After all we hadn’t changed a bit had we?

Next, Alan’s challenge, of remembering as many as possible of the 20 objects on the table. We were allowed a minute to study them the 5 minutes to write down our answers. In the silence of concentration you could almost hear the brains working!

The oos and aahs of realisation, when the answers were read out, were plenty.

Monday evening was the raffle draw, and quiz answers. The raffle (Mary’s raffle) raised £51 and much hilarity was guessing what was in the pre wrapped prizes laid out on the table in Alan& Sylvia’s awning. One parcel in particular certainly did appear to resemble a mini loo seat! but was revealed to be a heart shaped chopping board.Mick & Erica won the quiz.

All too soon the week came to an end and there was a flurry of activity as we all took down awnings and packed up. As each caravan departed we all said our good byes.

Most of us will meet again at the AGM in Fakenham so the Carousels won’t have much of a rest.

A big thank you to Alan (hope your neck improves soon) & Sylvia (&Tom of course) for a really great rally.

PS We should all be very proud of owning our Carousels as they have been given a glowing report in the latest Caravan Club magazine. Richard is praised for his speed in erecting one and excellent hand over to buyers.
